Use 3 strategies to solve each of the story problems. Highlight which strategy is the most efficient. You have a go at these strategies by adding any 2 digit numbers.

24 + 17 = 41
I added 20 + 10 = 30 then I added 4 + 7 =11 then I added 30 + 11 = 41 so the answer is 41
Knowledge I need to work this strategy is:
- I need to know the place value of each digit. -I need to know my basic facts to 20. I need to know how to add on tens number. | 24 + 17 = 41 I split 17 into 10 and 7. Then I added 24 +10 which = 34 then I added 6 onto 34 which is 40 and then 1 more because 6+1=7, so the answer is 41 Knowledge I need to work this strategy is: - I need to know the place value of each digit. - I need to know how to add on in tens. -I need to know my splits of numbers. -I need to know how to add up to the nearest tens number. | 24 + 17 = 41 -3 +3 21 + 20 = 41 I took 3 off 24 which left 21, and put it onto 17 to make 20. Then I added 21 + 20 which = 41 Knowledge I need to work this strategy is: -I need to know how to make a tidy number(decades). -I need to know that I can move numbers around to do this. - I need to know how to add on tens |
